Remove metadata from PDF

A PDF can carry the author's name, the software that made it, the original title and timestamps — long after it leaves your computer. Docfy shows you every property, then strips it in your browser.

    What's inside a PDF

The visible pages are only part of the file. PDFs also store a property dictionary and, often, a second XMP packet. Those fields are invisible in most readers but readable by anyone with the file.

    Identity fields

Author, title, subject and keywords — usually a name, a company or an internal project code.

    Software fingerprints

Creator and producer reveal the app, template or export pipeline used to make the file.

    Timestamps

Creation and modification dates can expose when a document was drafted or last edited.

    XMP & attachments

A separate metadata packet, plus document-level attachments that travel with the file.

    What actually changes

Docfy keeps the pages and drops the property containers. The clean file opens the same way and no longer carries the fields below.

    Documents leak more than text

A contract sent to a client can reveal the author's email address, the internal template name and the exact time it was edited. A résumé exported from Word carries the account name of the person who made it. None of that is visible on the page.

Cleaning the file before it leaves your device is more reliable than trusting the next platform to strip it — email, cloud links and upload forms usually keep everything.

    Inspect, clean, verify

    See every property first

Docfy reads the PDF's property dictionary, XMP packet and attachment count, then shows them before changing anything.

    Clean in the browser

The file is rebuilt without the property fields and without document-level metadata. Pages, text and images stay the same.

    Verify the output

The clean copy is parsed again before download. If any field survived, the tool reports a failure instead of handing it over silently.

    Questions people ask

    Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Reading, cleaning and downloading all happen in this tab. Open DevTools → Network, choose a PDF and clean it: there are no upload requests. The page does not load third-party scripts.

    What exactly is removed?

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation and modification dates, the XMP packet and document-level attachments. The output is rebuilt with an empty property set.

    Does the page content change?

No. Pages, text, images and links stay as they are. Bookmarks, form fields and attachments are not preserved — that is the trade-off for removing document-level metadata.

Can I remove metadata from several PDFs?

Not yet — one file at a time. Batch processing is planned.

Why is the output sometimes smaller?

Rebuilding drops unused document-level objects. A smaller file is normal, not a sign of missing pages.

    Is it free?

Yes, with no account. Files are processed locally, so there is no per-file server cost.
